Eti Krom Inc, the largest chrome producer in Turkey, will raise their official prices of chrome ore for shipments in the second quarter of 2010. Namely, the prices of Turkish lumpy chrome ore rise to USD 450 for April shipment, USD 470 for May shipment and USD 500 for June shipment respectively. Eti Krom explained about the reasons, why the prices of Turkish chrome ore for exports have to rise, as follows: 1. According to a presumption by a leading analyst, oil price is anticipated to rise to USD 100 PBB within 2010, causing to raise the costs for production of chrome ore. 2. Transportation costs also will increase. Inland transportation by railway has been damaged in January of 2010 but it is not clear yet when are the damaged railway lines able to complete its repairs and the volumes of cargoes to be transported for exports in 2010 are estimated to be reduced by 40% to 50%. 3. Also, trucking companies will prefer to carry vegetables and grains instead of ore and, therefore, trucking costs are increased by 15%, In addition, the global shortage of 20 foot containers is accelerating to increase transportation costs. 4. Since early 2009, the Turkish government has been reviewing mining royalties and rights and it is expected that the new mining legislation will be released soon. Therefore, all mining costs will increase in Turkey. 5. Being symbolized by the fact that the benchmark price of South African charge chrome for shipments to Europe in April to June 2010 quarter has been settled by a rise of 35 US cents per pound of Cr, the international prices of ferrochrome are on the way to rise. 6. In view of the World Soccer Games scheduled to be held in June of 2010 in South Africa, there is a possibility that both of production and transportation for chrome ore in South Africa will be troubled. |
